Principal Areas of Practice

Vaughan joined MDS Law in December 2006 and became a partner in December 2009. Prior to joining MDS Law Vaughan worked for international firms in Wellington and London.

Vaughan’s focus within the practice is corporate and commercial. He advises on a wide variety of matters including acquisitions, finance, intellectual property and commerical based matters. 

Vaughan works closely with Don McBeath, Partner, in providing specialist advice to the University of Canterbury. He has specialist knowledge in areas of law relating to the activities of the University. These include education related law, commercial law, information law and intellectual property law.

Vaughan has also developed specialist knowledge of retirement village legislation and provides advice in relation to the
establishment and ongoing operation of retirement village schemes. This supplements the comprehensive retirement sector and elderly care legal services we offer.

Vaughan has extensive litigation, regulatory and advocacy experience which he is able to draw on when advising clients involved in commercial and other disputes. This enables Vaughan to provide clients with commercially realistic and practical advice when conflicts arise.
